SAM SIMMONS NOMINATED FOR
EDINBURGH’S TOP COMEDY AWARD

Sam Simmons

Australia’s own maestro of suburban absurdism Sam Simmons has been nominated for the 2011 Fosters Comedy Award for his show Meanwhile. In their 31st year, the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Awards (formerly known as the Perrier and the if.comedy awards) are the Academy Awards of the Comedy world.

Simmons already took out Best Comedy at the Adelaide Fringe earlier this year and was nominated for Most Outstanding Show at the 2011 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

He is the only act from across the pond on this year’s list and he joins only a handful of Australians to be recognized on the world stage in this way.

The 2011 nominees are:

Sam Simmons: Meanwhile
Adam Riches: Bring Me the Head of Adam Riches
Andrew Maxwell: The Lights Are On
Chris Ramsey: Offermation
Josie Long: The Future Is Another Place
Nick Helm: Dare to Dream

Nica Burns, producer of the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards said:
We have a brilliant shortlist for Best Comedy Show; a set of nominees to please differing funny bones - character, political and life-affirming comedy. And most of all- very, very funny. This has been a great Edinburgh Festival for comedy”.

The winner will be announced on Saturday 27th August at 2pm (11pm AEST) and will receive a cash prize of £10,000.

The Australians to take out the top prize over the last 30 years are: Brendon Burns (07), Lano and Woodley (94) and Los Trios Ringbarkus (83). Fellow Aussie nominees have been Adam Hills (01, 02 & 03), The Umbilical Brothers (95), Sarah Kendall (04) and the Doug Anthony Allstars (88).

Past winners include: Cambridge Footlights (feat. Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry & Emma Thompson) (81), Steve Coogan (92), Dylan Moran (96), Daniel Kitson (02) and Demitri Martin (03), not to mention nominees The Flight of the Conchords (03) and The Mighty Boosh (99).

Sam Simmons is Australia’s most original comedy creation and the world has caught on.
Here’s just some of the stir Sam has been causing at the World’s biggest Fringe:

“…there is such joy, such relish in the way Simmons performs he becomes an utterly irresistible comedy force…Simmons is channeling the comedy genius of The Pythons.” **** The Scotsman

“a breathlessly inventive psycho-comedy that thrives off Simmons's warped whimsicality…a montage of elliptically surreal, jarringly abrupt vignettes that cumulatively suggest a series of The Mighty Boosh run through a shredder.” The Independent

“a mysterious, unstoppable, rebel force”****** Hairline Reviews

“hits transcendent levels of daftness” ****The Guardian

“undoubtedly one of the funniest shows at the Fringe” **** Time Out London

“he is one fucked-up dude” **** Chortle UK

“it’s by turns, unsettling, terrifying and hilarious” **** ThreeWeeks

The everyday suddenly turns into comedy.

FRANK STARTS FILMING WOODLEY

Filming starts today on the new eight-part comedy series Woodley, written by and starring Frank Woodley. Filled with virtuosic physical mayhem, Woodley is an unashamedly sentimental comedy produced for ABC1.

Woodley is the chaotic and accident prone father of seven-year-old Ollie (Alexandra Cashmere). His ex-wife Em (Justine Clarke) couldn’t live amongst the chaos but he secretly hopes that one day he’ll win her back and there is nothing he won’t do to get the family together again. But with Em’s new boyfriend Greg (Tom Long) on the scene, it’s not going to be easy for him.

Frank has been at the forefront of physical comedy for the last 25 years, largely as one half of Lano and Woodley. Since 2007, Frank has been performing in sell-out solo shows in Australia and the UK.

Frank says “I’m absolutely rapt that the lunatics at the ABC are helping me make something so unusual, a romantic comedy in which almost all the jokes are visual. We’re attempting to create a world of exhilarating comic nonsense, with an undertow of the sadness and the yearning for love that’s part of all our lives.”

ABC TV’s Head of Comedy, Debbie Lee says, “Viewers of all ages are in for a real treat. With a terrific cast on board and a wonderfully romantic script, Woodley is shaping up to be one of the comedy highlights of the year.”

A physical comedy of epic proportions, Woodley will be shot on location in Melbourne over the next seven weeks and will air later in the year.

Production Credits: A Bucket Tree Production in association with ABC TV and Film Victoria. Directed by Trent O’Donnell, producers Frank Woodley, Simon Wright and Andy Walker. Executive producers Kevin Whyte and Debbie Lee.

CHARLIE PICKERING'S 'IMPRACTICAL JOKES' AVAILABLE NOW

Charlie Pickering Impractical Jokes Book

Impractical Jokes
Full book details

Three toilets, a deceased poodle and some sadly depreciated real-estate ... a rollicking, laugh-out-loud memoir of how a practical joke went too far from one of Australia's brightest young comedians.

'A diabolical ping-pong game of prank and counter-prank across the generations. Hilarious and warm-hearted, Impractical Jokes is both a comic evocation of the Australian larrikin spirit and an ode to a loving father. Don't just read the jacket blurb - buy it!' - Shaun Micallef

In 1986, Charlie Pickering's dad, Ron, was pushed into a pool by his best friend, Richard. What followed was an all-out water pistol ambush in a five-star restaurant and then ten years of tit-for-tat payback and near fatal hijinx that eventually involved the State Emergency Service. When maturity is the first casualty of war, things tend to escalate.

Impractical Jokes is the true story of two seemingly responsible, middle-aged men who opted out of having a mid-life crisis and instead gave themselves permission to be silly. It is also the tale of how Charlie finally learnt something from his dad - that being grown-up shouldn't mean losing your sense of humour - a lesson he lives to the full as one of Australia's leading comedians.

PETER HELLIAR’S NIGHT OF COMEDY AT THE SANDBELT

For the first time in two years, and for one night only Friday, February 19th -
With MC Adam Rozenbachs, Opening act Dave Thornton

Hot on the heels of announcing his signing to Channel 7’s new AFL show, the one and only Peter Helliar will present a night of brilliant comedy at The Sandbelt on Friday, February 19.

Probably best known for his ten years alongside Rove McManus on ROVE, Peter Helliar is one of Australia’s most loved stand-up comedians.

Late last year, Pete’s scheduled Sandbelt gig had to be cancelled due to the funny man’s commitments with his forthcoming feature film, “I Love You Too”, but true to his word, the show must go on and fans will get the chance to see him up close and personal in just a couple of weeks.

It’s been two years since he hit the stage with a solo show so don’t miss your chance to see Peter Helliar live on stage – one night only!

Fellow funny man Adam Rozenbachs will also entertain with his MC skills, and opening the show will be Dave Thornton.

“…give Peter Helliar a stage, a microphone, some bright lights and a captive audience and he shows why he is one of the nation’s favourite comedians” - Sunday Mail, SA.

"Peter Helliar makes the difficult business of being funny look dead easy." - Adelaide Advertiser

HAVE TOM AND ALEX OVER FOR BREAKFAST!

Triple J is rapt to announce Tom Ballard and Alex Dyson as our new Breakfast team.
Nurtured and developed within Triple J, now is their time to be promoted to radio’s sweet spot. At 19 and 21, Tom and Alex are the youngest breakfast team in the country.
For the past year they’ve been bringing early morning cheer to Weekend Breakfast with their unique segments and ramshackle banter.
Close family friends, Tom and Alex met at playgroup in Warrnambool VIC, attended the same Primary School and bonded in amateur musical theatre.
They realised they had a knack for working together when they wrote a ridiculous play for a local drama festival.
In 2006 Chris Scaddan (triple j Program Director) discovered Tom at the Raw Comedy Final, learnt that he had an established creative partner and commissioned radio demos from the pair. He was so impressed with what he heard he immediately threw them into the late-night deep end, and impressed by their progress the childhood mates promptly moved to reign Weekend Breakfast.
Manager of triple j Ann Chesterman said of their appointment “Tom and Alex will be a stand out on breakfast radio in 2010 – they’re fresh, intelligent, funny and smack bang in the demographic of the triple j audience"
Now Tom & Alex invite you to join them for the most important meal of the day.
It’s the most exciting thing happening on breakfast radio next year – fact.
Breakfast with Tom & Alex weekdays 6 – 9am from Monday 11th January 2010.

Comics join forces with tigers to say Don’t Palm us Off

Claire Hooper (Network Ten’s Good News Week), Josh Thomas (Network Ten’s Talking About Your Generation) and Tom Ballard (JJJ’s Tom & Alex) have joined forces with Melbourne Zoo’s Tigers Ramalon and Binjai to raise awareness about the impact of palm oil on Sumatran Tiger habitat.

The three young comedians met the Zoo’s Sumatran Tigers and even found time to feed Ramalon a milky treat.

Unsustainable harvesting of palm oil is destroying prime Orang-utan and Sumatran Tiger habitat in South East Asia at the rate of 300 soccer fields per minute.

Palm oil is found in about 40 per cent of food products in our supermarkets, but most Australians don’t know about it because it’s often simply labeled as vegetable oil.

The Sumatran Tiger’s habitat is rapidly disappearing, cut down to make way for oil palm plantations. As Tiger habitat is destroyed these animals venture into community areas looking for food, which fuels human –wildlife conflict.

Australians are unknowingly contributing to this crisis by consuming about 10 kilograms of palm oil per person per year. At the rate of deforestation Orang-utans and Sumatran Tigers could be extinct in the wild in less than 10 years.

The Sumatran Tiger is the most vulnerable of the six tiger species with less than 300 left in the wild, and currently close to 50 Orang-utans die each week as a result of palm oil.

Melbourne Zoo is currently asking the community whether they want palm oil labelled on all food products in an attempt to harness the community’s voice. Once palm oil is labelled on all food products, consumers will be able to exert pressure for a sustainable palm oil industry.

This information will be used to submit a proposal to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) for palm oil labelling on the basis that the community wants the choice.

To sign your name visit www.zoo.org.au/palmoil  and tell Melbourne Zoo you want the choice!

SAM SIMMONS IN The Urban Monkey with Murray Foote

In the tradition of Alby Mangels, Steve Irwin, Harry Butler and The Bush Tucker Man – comes Murray Foote – animal warrior, conservationist, scientist, recording artist, good bloke and ladies man.

In 1987, Murray was fortunate to front his own television program, The Urban Monkey, which unfortunately was lost, and then rediscovered recently in a garage in suburban Melbourne.

From human babies to reptiles and loads of four-legged, cute, warm-blooded creatures thrown into the mix, Murray traces the Oval of Life and radically attempts to draw parallels between the human and animal world.
Conception, Birth, Survival, Home, Knowledge, Friends, Love, Boredom, Battles and Death are just some of the major themes explored this cult documentary series.

Check out Sam Simmons in this 11-part “fully restored 1980s” interstitials from Monday 14th September at 8:55pm on ABC2.

DAVE HUGHES IS HANDY!

New DVD on sale.

Dave Hughes is perhaps one of the most important and significant talents to have emerged from the Australian comedy scene in the last ten years. A natural and unmistakably Australian comic, Dave’s laconic style thinly disguises one of the fastest comic minds this country has ever seen.

The most powerful testimony to Dave’s talent is his enduring popularity with audiences.

He hit the road in 2009, with his latest solo show offering, Dave Hughes is Handy. And now Liberation Music is proud to release the DVD of that show, Dave Hughes Is Handy.

The DVD features all brand new material, a full length show recorded at the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, along with bonus features including exclusive backstage footage and ‘At Home With The Hugheses’, an intimate and personal look at Dave’s family life in his Melbourne home.

What do Dave Hughes, Charlie Pickering, Carrie Bickmore,
Ruby Rose and James Mathison have in common?

The 7PM Project

After months of speculation Network Ten and Roving Enterprises can finally reveal that the new 7PM project in development since late 2008 finally has a name.

The new 7PM project is called The 7PM Project.

While the name may not be very surprising the cast is extremely exciting.

Led by comedian co-hosts Dave Hughes and Charlie Pickering, the news of the day will be brought to audiences by newshound Carrie Bickmore joined by music correspondant MTV's 'IT' girl Ruby Rose and the sport beat from TV's man of leisure James Mathison.

The day’s news will be dissected, digested and re-constituted by some of Australia’s funniest and smartest.

The 7PM Project is a place where people who are genuinely interested in the world around them come together to talk, offering genuine conversation in a space previously crowded by scandal and spin.

While it’s not afraid to be serious, The 7PM Project can guarantee that there will be no miracle diets, no stories that ‘no parent can afford to miss’, and virtually no dodgy plumbers.

The 7PM Project is the news un-spun. It is not a satirical newscast in the style of Jon Stewart’s Daily Show, but a TV show joining in the conversations going on in living rooms around the country.

Tune in from July 20, every weekday on Network Ten at 7PM

DENISE SCOTT - "ALL THAT HAPPENED AT NUMBER 26"

Denise Scott moved into number 26 with a husband, his circus equipment, a king-sized futon sans base, a Ventolin inhaler (to cope with stress-induced asthma), no savings and a newborn baby. The husband lost his eyebrows; the circus equipment multiplied; the futon went mouldy; the Ventolin ran out; and another baby was added to the family, putting paid to any ideas of further savings.

But this book is definitely no misery memoir.

To celebrate the release of "All That Happened at Number 26", special launch events will be held at the following:

THE GRUEN TRANSFER SECOND SERIES!

Gruen

Congratulations to Wil Anderson and Zapruder's other films, as ABC-TV have announced it has commissioned a second series of THE GRUEN TRANSFER!

The current series is averaging 1.2 million people each week, with an excess of over 100,000 downloads and streams on the website. The new series will go into production early next year, with the final episode of the current series to screen on Wednesday July 30.

Andrew Denton from Zapruder’s other films said, “We are thrilled to be given a crack at a second series, as, in some ways, it feels like we’ve only just begun to explore the extraordinary world of advertising and its ways of persuasion.

“We are also looking forward to handing out more impossible advertising challenges to the industry, such as making Sam Newman a spokesman for women’s rights, or selling nuclear reactors as the must-have facility for your town”.

THE GRUEN TRANSFER - The ABC of Advertising
Premieres on Wednesday, May 28 at 9pm on ABC1

Wil Anderson - The Gruen Transfer

The Gruen Transfer is a fast, funny show about advertising that will make you look differently at the constructed world around you.

Hosted by Wil Anderson. It’s not an expose. It’s not a satire. It’s about truth in advertising. Finally.

We used to know what advertising was. It was that stuff in the margins, in the ad breaks. But in recent years, it has begun colonising every space it can. US ad wizard Mark Fenske, the guy behind the Nike campaigns, calls advertising “maybe the most powerful art form on Earth”. And the Earth ain’t the end of it. Not so long ago, Pizza Hut stamped its logo on a rocket to the moon. Earlier this year, Doritos announced it would beam its ads into space.

Ogilvy & Mather now practises what it calls “360 degree branding”, the idea that we, the consumers, should encounter the brand everywhere we turn in the course of our day. Some agencies now routinely use hypnosis and MRI scanning to try and find out what we want.

We all think we’re immune to advertising, that we’re smarter than the marketers, but can you honestly say you know why you buy one brand of detergent and not another? As you walk the aisles of the supermarket, how many of the purchasing choices you make are consciously your own? And if you can be persuaded, without realising, to buy the orange dishwashing liquid, what else can you be persuaded to do? Advertising: you know you’re soaking in it.

Which is where The Gruen Transfer comes in. Each week, Wil Anderson is joined by some of the best and brightest minds of the advertising industry, experts prepared to share the ideas and insights that drive them.

Guests on the program face a series of challenges designed to show the thought processes – and, often, the brilliance - of advertising, as well as its understanding of who we are and what we want. Each week we examine the tactics used to sell a particular product: cars or chocolate or cleansers. In a segment called ‘The Pitch’, agencies compete to fulfill an impossible brief (‘Make Brendan Nelson a winner’, for example). Elsewhere, ‘Consumer’s Revenge’ allows our audience to participate in the show by making their own ads with tools we provide on our website.

JUDITH LUCY - THE LUCY FAMILY ALPHABET
Lucy Family Alphabet

Judith Lucy has been cracking jokes about her parents for years, so she decided it was time to write a book about them, and her childhood... and here it is, a reference book on all things Lucy from:

A is for Adoption (she is) to C is for Cleaning (they didn’t) and for Counselling (you’ll find out why she had a lot of it) to D is for Diets (she was put on one at eight) to H is for Heart Attack (her father’s) to M is for Make-up (her father’s) to N is for Nuts (there was a falling out over testicles) to R is for Review (to do with the Nuts) to T is for Transcendental Meditation (it didn’t work) to X is for Xmas (when a lot of this started) and beyond...

Judith's funny and ruthlessly honest book is titled "The Lucy Family Alpahabet" and is released on Monday May 5.

TRIPOD'S IDIOCLIPS IS BACK!

Idioclips

Tripod have been making song-funnies for over a decade now. In that time they've written songs for television, radio, CDs and countless live shows too. Which adds up to a heaps large bunch of songs.

Every now and then someone, quite off their own back, makes an animation or video clip for one of their songs and sends it to them. Which is always a great buzz and a very interesting collaborative experiment. What they thought might be fun is if they put the call out and turned it into a bit of a thang... So last year they did and received a bunch of awesome clips and then performed them live during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in April 2007.

They had such a good time and the entries were so cool that they’ve decided to do it again for 2008! Entries are now open and there are prizes up for grabs, check out www.idioclips.com for more details.

CORINNE GRANT & TOM GLEESON SHOW –
FEELING GOOD FOR BREAKFAST!

Following the success of their Saturday morning time slot, The Corinne Grant & Tom Gleeson Show will take over from MIX101.1’s Tracy Bartram and Tim Smith for two weeks from June 12 whilst Tracy and Tim take a well earned break.

Being the only live breakfast team in Melbourne over this period, Corinne Grant & Tom Gleeson will not let Melbourne breakfast listeners starve for their topical, entertaining and feel good brekky wake up!

Corinne as “the smart, funny girl next door, the anti-bimbo...” and Tom with his “sophisticated” yet “country boy charm”, are both well established within the Australian comedy scene on stage, TV and radio. The Corinne Grant & Tom Gleeson Show is an entertaining tapestry of their sharp wit, cheerful banter and clever antics.

Breakfast radio is not for the fainthearted and both Corinne and Tom are taking the challenge very seriously, “Waking up early on Saturday isn’t enough. I want to do it six days a week. I’m going to get up early on Sunday too, just for consistency.”  - Tom

Corinne’s dedication rivals that of Tom’s,” My birthday is on the 12th so I’m going to spend the whole morning demanding cake and balloons. And a clown. I really, really want a clown.”  - Corinne

Friday, April 13 at 7.30pm on Channel Nine

Join Gold Logie winner JOHN WOOD as he experiences a mouth-watering journey of the palate in the new lifestyle program WINE ME DINE ME, premiering Friday, April 13 at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.

Wood reprises his role of host following last year's success of the two-part WINE ME DINE ME specials shown in Victoria.

He is joined by a team of presenters - COLIN LANE, JENNIFER ADAMS, GIAAN ROONEY, CHERIE HAUSLER and TOD JOHNSTON - as they discover the best wine and gourmet delights on offer in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

Each episode of WINE ME DINE ME features six segments based on the produce tales from the different regions in the three featured states - the best accommodation, eccentric local characters, quirkiest pubs and so on.

There will also be regular guest presenters visiting other well-known wine regions, including Tasmania, New South Wales and New Zealand.

In the series debut, Wood and Lane parachute into one of Victoria's premier wine regions, the Yarra Valley, to taste-test wine and strawberries while special celebrity guest presenter Jimeoin reveals his favourite holiday spots in Torquay.

Rooney bonds with Melbourne's best baristas to taste the city's strongest coffee while Adams spends a day on the farm in Daylesford before rewarding herself with a visit to the Lake House Spa. Across the border in South Australia, Hausler visits Coorong, the setting for Colin Thiele's novel Storm Boy, and further afield, Johnston explores the city of Mandurah in Western Australia.

Prepare for a culinary feast when Wine Me Dine Me premieres:

Kings of Comedy - featuring Colin Lane as host
premiers tonight on Ch 9 @ 7:30pm

16 February 2007
Some of the world's most legendary comedians will be celebrated in a new retrospective series, Kings of Comedy, which premieres Friday, February 16 at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.

Hosted by Colin Lane, of the late great comedy duo Lano & Woodley, this one-hour program features a collection of archived routines performed on Channel Nine programs over the last five decades.

Famous comedians in the six-part series include the Irish superstar who dominated British television, Dave Allen; the hilarious Two Ronnies, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett; the iconic team of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore; Australia's king of television, Graham Kennedy; Hale and Pace; deadpan US comic Steven Wright; legendary Australian performer Rolf Harris; pop parody group The Hee Bee Gee Bees; and the forefather of American improvisation, Shelley Berman.

In a celebration of Kennedy's immense impact on Australian television, the first episode - on the day after his birthday - contains three contributions from the inimitable larrikin of laughs.

Following on from the successful Kings of Comedy special last year, footage for the series has been collated from a number of specials, series and variety show sketches filmed in the studios of TCN-9 and GTV-9 from the 1960s to the 1990s.

Adam Hills returns with the ABC's

musically funny hit Spicks & Specks,
back from Wednesday 14 February at 8.30pm.

Hills, one of Australia's favourite comedians, is joined by two team captains, comedian and actor Alan Brough and Triple J breakfast announcer Myf Warhurst. This week on Myf's team are: Dan Hume (Evermore) and radio host/comedian Dave O'Neill. On Alan's team are: star of stage and screen, Nancye Hayes, and actor/comedian Jonathan Biggins.

Two teams go head to head as they sing, shout and delve deep into the recesses of their collective minds to help earn their team an extremely inglorious victory.

Whether discussing the lyrical genius of Gilbert and Sullivan, the reasons Ozzy Osbourne wore a dress or just how a musician can choke on a harmonica, no musical genre is overlooked... well, except for maybe Swedish folk music, but hey, we've all got limits.

Video clips, album covers, and information you never thought anyone could know the answer to, Spicks and Specks enlightens and entertains - and exposes the world of music like never before

Adam Hills and Friends

Join Adam Hills host of ABC TVs Spicks and Specks every Sunday evening from the 4th of February as he hosts an evening of what may be referred to as "Comedy Brainstorming". At these shows Adam will be trying to figure out if any of the ideas he has had for his upcoming Melbourne Comedy Festival season are funny.

Which is where you come in...

Deciding what is hilarious can be a lonely task even for one of our most popular and successful comedians. Research has shown that is much more fun / productive if there are other people in the room - to laugh or not to laugh. You can look upon your attendance as something of a community service if you like.

Each week Adam will be joined by a special guest support act.

Venue: 6 Links, 228 Flinders Lane (just off Swanston St)
Dates: Every Sunday from the 4th of February til 31st March

Tripod - New Live Album, Songs from Self Saucing

Its been all GO at the Tripod camp lately. They've sat through two seasons of Deadwood. They've spent their days staring blankly at each other in the 'Writing Room' and their nights arguing over whether or not the Veronicas are too short to be hot. Yes people, It's time for the boys to slow down, take stock, sit back, relax, release an album and watch the money roll in.

TRIPOD - HEY, WE DON'T MAKE THE YULES

Ah, Christmas! A time of child-like wonderment, joy and mystery. Of magic, smiles and goodwill to all men. What rubbish! C'mon face it. The last time you felt Christmassy was... you can't remember can you? Christmas is a pain in the arse. The whole routine is getting stale. Why does it have to be so hard? You spend a fortune buying gifts, spend the week in awkward family 'situations'... And as for the Christmas rush, don't get me started. I mean why did the son of God have to be born at a time when its so hard to find a car park?! Timing Jesus, timing.

But praise the Lord Tripod are here to save the day... again. The Tripod caravan of courage is coming to your town with the new, "Hey, We Don't Make The Yules" tour. They don't make the yules, but they do come up with their own show titles, and they're particularly proud of this one. Songs about donkeys and Marys and Santas are guaranteed. Thank God for Tripod - putting the CHRIST! (as in Christ! How good is this?!?) back into Christmas.

2006 started off rather well for Tripod with the release of their very first DVD Pod August Night, through Liberation Music. Their tenth season at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in April was fittingly their most successful to date. They premiere at the Oddfellows New Zealand Comedy Festival in May and have been busily touring the nation since then.

"These guys are good. These guys are great. These guys are jaw-hang-wide-open,-drool-slowly-drip-out brilliant" HERALD-SUN, MELBOURNE

WIL ANDERSON'S
SURVIVAL OF THE DUMBEST

21 September 2006

One of Australia's best loved and funniest comedians at his acerbic and hilarious best. A laugh-out-loud thigh-slapper from a comic genius.

"Did you know that in the last ten years, 31 Australians have died from watering the Christmas tree while the lights were still plugged in? And at least a couple of those were watering plastic trees. Now I don't want to seem callous, but to me that's not a tragedy - that's natural selection."

In SURVIVAL OF THE DUMBEST, Wil Anderson turns his sharp gaze and wicked wit to the stupid, strange and perplexing quandaries of popular culture. Wil spares no-one, not even himself, as he delivers an almighty forehead slap to the modern world. And let's face it: between TV, politics, oversexed sports stars, advertising and automatic phone-banking systems - there are a lot of foreheads that need one.

Wil Anderson caused cornflake snorting incidents as a breakfast announcer on Triple J, hosts ABC TV's ever-popular The Glass House and continues to thrill audiences at just about every comedy festival known to man. Now Wil has set down some of his funniest rants and observations in this book. Let's just hope there are enough people left who can read.

Strauchanie - Pure B.S
29 August 2006

Bryan Strauchan was joined at the Lexus Centre on Thursday by team mates Paul Licuria Brodie Holland, to launch his new DVD Strauchanie - Pure B.S., covering his meteoric rise to self proclaimed - Magpie Superstar status.

Strauchanie, who was taken as last pick by Collingwood in 2004 draft, has made a dramatic rise from the Horsham 3rds reserves team.

When asked why he felt that the time was right to release a DVD, capturing his finest moments over the past two seasons, despite not actually having yet played a game, Strauchanie responded; "Why am I releasing a DVD? Good question Strauchanie. I am releasing a DVD because the greatest people of our time need to be captured," said Strauchan.

Continuing, Strauchan shared; "It's that simple. So many great lives are available on DVD - John F. Kennedy, the Olsen Twins and now... Bryan 'Strauchanie' Strauchan.

"Not only is this DVD very entertaining, it's a bargain too. What else could you get for the same price? Two McChicken meal deals upsized, four Happy meals, a McFlurry, three Traveller pies, two steamed dim sims, three hotdogs with sauce, onion, cheese and bacon and a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts? I don't think so."

Available at Coles and JBHiFi.

Charlie Pickering starstar review from Edinburgh

"[Pickering is] charming company and a natural raconteur... very good at identifying and communicating the comedic heart of even the most mundane events, and elevating these kitchen sink incidents into the realm of tragicomic entertainment... Judging by the amount of fertile, insightful material here, Pickering's autobiography will be the proverbial right riveting read." The Scotsman

"Anderson is a master of constructing a situation and finishing it off with a killer one-liner in the time it takes most comedians to drawl: "Say, what's the deal with this... war on terror?"... TOKEN ARTISTS SELL THE BIG ISSUE
18 July 2006

As part of the 10th Anniversary Celebrations during the first week of July, Wil Anderson, Dave Hughes, Rod Quantock, Judith Lucy and Rove McManus volunteered as Big Issue Vendors on the streets of Sydney and Melbourne.

While "lick the cover and get high" and "show it at work and get a promotion" aren't the normal sales lines, Wil managed to sell 37 magazines in his 45 minute stint. After a sluggish start Hughesy really picked up after his 'skinny latte' and ended up selling a pleasantly plump 23 magazines in about 40 minutes. Rove started off slowly and didn't look likely to threaten Wil's record of 37 sales but he eventually warmed to the task and flogged a whopping 40 magazines in 40 minutes!!! He handed over a fistful of cash to regular Swan Street vendor Leo who went skipping off to buy himself a new pair of glasses. Judith Lucy sold 24 magazines in Acland Street, and easily took the award for the most glamorous celebrity that regular vendor Denis had ever worked with, he said. Not sure if this has more to do with the big tip Judith left, or the fact that Hughesy is the only other celebrity Denis has worked with. Rod looked great in his yellow vest and graced the streets of Clifton Hill.
